In collaboration with Free Press Unlimited, Drawing the Times is organizing a contest in graphic journalism in selected African countries: Rwanda/Burundi, Mali, Bénin, Cameroon and the Democratic Republic of Congo. This is an open call for all artists living in these countries to enter the contest by making a visual reportage. The theme of the contest is: Fier de toi! Proud Of You!
In a graphic reportage the images do most of the storytelling, like in comic strips. Text is an addition to the images: the artist uses words when meaning cannot be drawn, like names and dialogues.
Are you proud and you want the world to know? Make a graphic reportage and join the contest!
How to join:
The graphic reportages can describe a person, an object, a place, a moment, or an idea that suits the theme Fier de toi! Proud Of You! Reportages can be in English or French.
The jury encourages women to participate.
Three laureates per country will each receive a prize of € 250 and enter the finals.
Out of these fifteen finalists, three winners will be awarded prizes:
First prize: € 1000
Second prize: € 500
Third prize: € 250
The works of all laureates will be published on Drawing the Times.
The reportage (drawings, comic strip, collage…) can be made in pencil, pen or paint, in colour or black and white. It can also be made digitally. Text can be handwritten or print.
